Well first of all, I would like to clear up a common mistake. “If I have moles, I must have grubs.” Not necessarily. Although they will also eat grubs, a moles primary food source is EARTHWORMS. Earthworms are a great thing and you want to encourage worms in your lawns and gardens. There are many products on the market that claim they will rid your lawn and gardens of these mole pests, but the results are mixed. Some success has been found with castor oil based products. When caster oil is applied to the soil it makes the soil distasteful to moles - so they move on. Of course, beware, they may just move to other parts of you lawn or over to your neighbors. Some folks have had success with the following “recipe”.
“Mole Cookies”
1/2 cup Peanut Butter
3 Vitamin D Tablets (crushed)
Oatmeal
Mix peanut butter and crushed tablets well. Roll mixture in oats
and put mixture inside a toilet tissue tube. Slice into 1/2” “cookies”
Place cookies in an active tunnel. Vitamin D creates a calcium
deficiency and the moles will perish.
Not for human consumption.
